3rd Rex Hospital Open Pro-Junior
TPC Wakefield Plantation Raleigh, NC
June 1, 20008
Final Results
RALEIGH, N.C. – The Rex Hospital Open hosted the third annual
Pro-Junior Invitational presented by Corporate Express on Sunday. Wake Forest Rolesville graduate Jordan Walor
shot the low round of the event and earned a sponsor’s exemption into the
official Nationwide Tour event, June 5 – 8. Walor’s
two-under-par 69 gave him medalist honors by one stroke. He will go on to
compete with the professionals beginning Thursday, June 5.
Walor (34-35=69) bagged five birdies as opposed to only
three bogeys to finish two-under at the par-71 TPC Wakefield Plantation course.
His birdies came at the par-4 first and ninth holes, the par-3 seventh hole and par-5 13th and 18th holes. Walor was named the 2008 Cap 7 Athletic Conference’s Player
of the Year for his performance at Rolesville High
and has decided to continue his playing career as a member of the UNC Pembroke
men’s golf team.
Walor’s nearest competitor was Daniel Meggs
of Butler High School in Charlotte. Meggs shot a
one-under 70 (35-35) and finished one stroke back of Walor.
The low girls’ round of the day
was shot by Courtney Gunter of Porter Ridge High School in Matthews. The 2008
Girls 1A/2A/3A champion shot a two-over-par 73 (38-35). Meghan Moore from Bahama, NC finished second in the girls’ division with a
four-over 75 (38-37).
The top 18 high school girls
and top 54 high school boys based on their current ranking by the Tarheel Golf Association, Junior Golf Scoreboard, Golfweek or past performance in golf events over the last
year competed. Included amongst these golfers were all current North Carolina
High School Athletic Association State Champions.
The format of the Pro-Junior
Invitational is three high school boys, one high school girl and one Nationwide
Tour professional in each group. Each team competed in a best ball competition,
while all the high school golfers also participated in a gross score
competition.
