Final Results

Jacksonville, NC – Emily Brooks of Chapel Hill, NC and Andrew Decker of Greenville, NC each won their division in the third annual Jimmy Anderson Junior Invitational hosted by Jacksonville Country Club in Jacksonville, NC. This annual 36-hole junior tournament was created in 2009 by the junior golf alumni of Jacksonville Country Club in honor of their long time teacher and friend, Jimmy Anderson. The 102-player field consisted of junior golfers from North and South Carolina.

Brooks, a high school junior, followed her first round of 74 with a four over par 76 to finish with a two day total of 150 and a six shot victory. Finishing tied for second at 156 were Casey Ward of Chapel Hill, NC, Tara Simmons of Goldsboro, NC and Sarah Bae of Cary, NC, the 2010 Jimmy Anderson Junior girls’ champion. Brooks began her final round with a couple of pars and finished her first nine holes with a one over par 37. On the back side, Brooks bogeyed number ten, but then rolled off a string of six pars before finishing with two bogeys on the challenging 17^th and 18^th holes. The victory was Brooks’ first in the past 12 months.

Decker, a high school senior, defended his 2010 victory in the Jimmy Anderson Junior and finished with a two day total of five under par 139. Grant Houser of Holly Springs, NC shot a round of three under par 69, the low round of the day, and finished in second place at one under par 143. Alone in third place was Taylor Coalson of Dodson, NC who finished three over par at 147. Eric Bae of Cary, NC, the 2010 NC Boys’ 13 and under state champion, finished in fourth place with a total of four over par 148. Home town favorite, Reggie Crews, Jr. of Jacksonville, NC finished in fifth place at five over par 149. Decker’s final round was text book golf playing the first 16 holes with two birdies and 14 pars before ending with two bogeys to finish with a round of even par. Decker will begin his college career this fall on the golf team at NC State.

This annual junior tournament is conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association.
