2012 JUNIOR SCHEDULE OF THE CAROLINAS


JIMMY ANDERSON JUNIOR OPEN FOR REGISTRATION    

     Registration for the 4th Jimmy Anderson Junior Invitational is now open.  Competitors may register through the MyCGA on line registration system or by mailing in the entry form.  This year's event will be conducted on March 17-18 at Jacksonville CC in Jacksonville, NC.  The field will be limited to 84 players, 27 girls and 57 boys.  We do anticipate a full field so sing up early!!!  Anderson home page


SUPPORT JUNIOR GOLF BY RENEWING YOUR MAGAZINES

     The Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) is excited about “Teeing it up” this year with American Publishers and bringing a new initiative that we think will greatly benefit our junior golf program. BAE AND GRIFFIN NAMED TO ALL-CAROLINAS JUNIOR TEAM

     The Carolinas Golf Association has named Sarah Bae of Cary and Benjamin Griffin of Chapel Hill to the 2011 All-Carolinas Junior team. The All-Carolinas Junior Team award is based upon a 17 event series of junior tournaments run by seven associations that are the grassroots of junior golf in the Carolinas.  The three leading point’s recipients in each division (boys and girls) will be invited to the Carolinas Golf Association's Annual Meeting and Golf Night on February 25, 2012 at Pine Needles Lodge and Golf Club in Southern Pines, NC where the Players of the Year and All-Carolinas Junior Team will be recognized.  Press Release


WAKE FOREST ANNOUNCES 2012 CAMP DATES

     Coach Jerry Haas has announced camp dates for summer 2012.  Join Coach Haas and other head college golf coaches from around the country at Wake Forest University's 18-acre Arnold Palmer Golf Practice Facility, collegiate home of PGA talents such as Jay Haas, Scott Hoch, Curtis Strange, Billy Andrade, Bill Haas and Webb Simpson. SARAH BAE REPEATS AS NC GIRLS' PLAYER OF THEYEAR;

MILLER CAPPS NAMED NC BOYS' PLAYER OF THE YEAR

     Sarah Bae of Cary and Miller Capps of Denver have been named the 2011 N.C. Junior Players of the Year by the Tarheel Youth Golf Association (TYGA) and the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA). This is the second straight year Bae has been named the NC junior girl’s player of the year.  The N.C. Junior Player of the Year award recognizes one girl and one boy who have had the most successful year in amateur and junior golf events at the local, state, regional and national levels.   These outstanding juniors, along with the 2011 N.C. All-State Girls’ and Boys’ teams, will be honored at the N.C. Junior Golf Night Awards Banquet on Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at Pine Needles Resort in Southern Pines, NC.  Press release


2011 GIRLS' ALL-STATE TEAM ANNOUNCED

     30 girls have been named to the 2011 N.C. Girls’ All-State Golf Teams by the Carolinas Golf Association and the Tarheel Youth Golf Association, honoring those junior golfers who have had the most success in amateur and junior golf events at the local, state, regional and national levels over the past 12 months.

First team:  Victoria Allred of Pfafftown, Catherine Ashworth of Fuquay-Varina, Sarah Bae of Cary, Emily Brooks of Chapel Hill, Evelyn Dole of Raleigh, Allyson Markiewicz of Charlotte, Madison Moosa of Charlotte, Emiley Pagrabs of Wilmington, Tara Simmons of Goldsboro and Alaina Yeatts of Durham.

Second team:  Taylor Allison of Elizabeth City, Lily Crane of Jamestown, Hannah Craver of Winston-Salem, Mary Katherine Donovan of Hampstead, Mariah Hopkins of Greensboro, Ashley Osiecki of New Bern, Emily Stinson of Charlotte and Casey Ward of Chapel Hill.

40 CLASS OF 2012 SENIORS SIGN TO PLAY COLLEGE GOLF

     40 high school seniors from across the North Carolina signed their National Letter of Intent during the early signing period to play collegiate golf.  The early period was from November 9 - 16, 2011.  Congratulations to all who signed early.  Early Signees


BECOME A PGA CHAMPIONSHIP JUNIOR VOLUNTEER

     Each Junior Volunteer, ages 16-21 as of August 6, 2012, will be placed on one of four committees: Leaderboards & Thru-boards, Monster Board or Standard Bearers. All junior volunteer committee assignments will be made on a first-come, first-served basis.  A volunteer fee is not required. However, each Junior Volunteer must commit to a minimum of 12 volunteer hours during the week of the PGA Championship.  For more information, please contact the PGA Championship Office by calling (843) 768-6003. DILLARD DRIVE MIDDLE WINS NC MIDDLE SCHOOL;

CHANG AND FREEMAN TAKE INDIVIDUAL TITLES

     Dillard Drive Middle School of Cary, NC shot a team total of four over par 146 to win the 10th NC Middle School Championship at Badin Inn GC in Badin, NC.  Dillard Drive’s team was represented by eight grader Eric Bae and sixth grader Jennifer Chang.  Bae shot a round of even par 71 to finish in second place in the boys’ division and Chang took the girls’ title with a round of four over par 75.  Finishing in second place was Carolina Day School of Asheville, NC.  Carolina Day School was lead by the boys’ champion John Freeman.  Freeman, an eight grader, shot a three under par 68 to win the boys' division by three shots.  Final results


OWEN RUNS AWAY WITH BOYS' TYGA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP

BROOKS WINS GIRLS' DIVISION IN PLAYOFF

     It took extra holes, but Emily Brooks of Chapel Hill went the extra distance and captured the girls’ title in the TYGA State Championship in playoff.  Brooks, a high school senior, finished with a two day total of 153 on the par 71 Sapona CC golf course.  Brooks defeated Evelyn Dole of Raleigh and Emily Stinson of Charlotte on number ten, the first playoff hole.  Finishing tied for fourth at 154 was Sarah Bae, the NC Junior Girls’ champion, of Cary and Tara Simmons of Goldsboro.  Tanner Owen of High Point won the boys’ division by seven shots finishing with a two day total of five under par 137.  Owen, a high school sophomore, was the only player to finish the tournament under par.  Finishing tied for second at two over par 142 were Tanner Gross of High Point, Alex Nianouris of Salisbury, Benjamin Griffin of Chapel Hill and Carter Jenkins of Raleigh.  Final result


INGRAM REPEATS AT TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS;

THOMAS TAKE BOYS' TITLE

     Kristi Ingram of Winston-Salem defeated Isabella Rusher of Salisbury on the third playoff hole to capture her second straight TYGA Tournament of Champions girls' title at Pine Brook CC in Winston-Salem.  Ingram, who will start college next week at Elon, shot a second round 72 to tie Rusher with a two day total of 149.  Finishing in third place was Lily Crane of Jamestown.  Edward Thomas of Cameron captured the boys' overall with a two day total of even par 144.  Finishing two shots back at 146 was Timothy Conover of Holly Springs.  Round 1 leader Spencer Cosgrove of Wilmington finished alone in third place at 147.  Full Results


MURRAY LEADS LEESVILLE ROAD HIGH

TO NC HIGH SCHOOL INVITATIONAL TITLE

Grayson Murray of Raleigh's Leesville Road High School outpaced the field by four shots to take the medalist honors and helped his team take the team title by 12 shots in the 5th NC High School Invitational hosted by Treyburn CC in Durham.  Playing is gusty winds that reached over 30 mph, Murray finished his round with a one over par 73.  Joining Murray on the winning team were Zack Seabolt (77), Jonathan Noble (80), Carter Jenkins (83) and Larry Han (90).  Full results 


BROOKS AND DECKER WIN 3RD JIMMY ANDERSON JUNIOR TITLES

Emily Brooks of Chapel Hill, NC and Andrew Decker of Greenville, NC each won their division in the third annual Jimmy Anderson Junior Invitational hosted by Jacksonville Country Club in Jacksonville, NC.  This annual 36-hole junior tournament was created in 2009 by the junior golf alumni of Jacksonville Country Club in honor of their long time teacher and friend, Jimmy Anderson. The 102-player field consisted of junior golfers from North and South Carolina.  Full results

About the Tarheel Youth Golf Association...In 1996, the Tarheel Youth Golf Association (TYGA) was formed to provide opportunities and information on junior golf in North Carolina. Our services have grown, but the membership is still free.

Membership in the Tarheel Youth Golf Association is free of charge and provides a membership packet, and allows juniors to play in TYGA One-Day Tournaments.

TYGA provides Rules Seminars to North Carolina junior programs, provides state-wide rankings for boys and girls, acts as a clearinghouse for clubs designated for donation, provides posters to all North Carolina CGA member clubs detailing CGA, TYGA, and USGA Junior events and provides Carolinas Golf Association USGA Handicap Indexes to members, free of charge.

The North Carolina Middle School Golf Association is administered and funded by the Tarheel Youth Golf Association.
